I think the standing desk converter is popular because it is extremely easy to assemble, inexpensive compared to other standing desk types, and most importantly it does allow you to work on your computer or any other activities while standing. All what you need is simply a regular desk so that you can place the standing desk converter on top of it.

There are a few categories within the converters type itself. You will notice that different companies and brands will have their own way of categorizing them. In this post, you will find that I simply group them to 3 categories because I try to make it as simple and clear as possible especially for those who have never purchased one before. If you are a first time buyer and want to know more about how to buy a standing desk in general, you can check my short guideline.

The categories are Desk Riser, Corner, and Electric. There is obviously a lot to consider when buying them but I will just mention the top 3 things that will make your buying decision easier.

1. Monitor Fit

One of the most common questions when considering a standing desk converter is related to the number of monitors and the size it can fit. If you only plan to use 1 monitor, you can pretty much choose any converters out there. However, if you have 2 monitors, you need to get a converter that is at least 35” wide.

I also suggest that you measure your monitor screens. If you have 2 monitors that are wider than 24”, you want to get a bigger standing desk converter. What if you operate with 3 monitors or more? Well thankfully a few brands do offer a sit-to-stand desk option, which can fit that many monitors.

Does the weight of the monitor matter? Sure it does but an average desk converter can hold around 35 lbs. Therefore, it should not pose a big problem for you.

2. Desk Space and Shape

You need to know the measurement of the table where you are going to place your standing desk converter on. Get a tape measure and write down the width, depth, and height and compare them with your desired converter! A lot of times people overlook the depth of their desk and they end up getting an oversized converter.

Do not worry if you have a particularly small desk! A lot of brands offer a compact standing desk converter as well. You also need to be cognizant of the shape of your desk. Do you work on a regular straight desk or L-shaped (corner) desk? Is your desk attached to a wall or cubicle? Your answer will help narrowing down your choice.

Lastly, I also suggest that you try to visualize where you are going to position your converter on your desk.

3. Height Adjustment

Remember that I suggest you earlier to measure your desk’s height? If you are less than 5’8”, you don’t necessarily need to worry about your desk’s height because most desk converter can adjust to 16” – 17”. However, if you are 6’ or taller, you need to get converters that can be adjusted to 19” or higher.

Obviously if you already have a tall desk (above 28”), you will have more options to choose from. I also encourage you to measure the height of your monitors. When your desk converter reaches its max height, you want to make sure that your eyes sight is still level with your monitors. Again, this is particularly more important for you who are 6’ or taller.

On this last desk riser recommendation list, I want to introduce you to a different brand that will not cost you an arm and leg and still provide you with the excellent benefit of standing while working. Rocelco DADR (Deluxe Adjustable Desk Riser) is an upgrade from Rocelco ADR.

One of my favorite features of this standing desk converter is it comes with a large grommet hole. Therefore you have an option to use it for organizing your cables or installing a monitor mount for 1 or 2 monitors. With a max height capacity of 16.3”, you may want to seriously consider getting a monitor mount especially if you are 6’ or taller.

Rocelco DADR also has similar features like the other brands:

• Comes fully assembled. You simply need to put it safely on your current desk and you can use it immediately.

2. Corner

If you have an L-shaped desk or corner cubicle, it can be very expensive to change it to an actual L shape standing desk. Let alone the difficulty to ship and install it. Therefore, getting a standing desk converter becomes a very popular option. You will normally place the converter at a 45⁰ angle in the corner of your desk with the keyboard hanging slightly over the front edge.

You may not feel the difference if you have plenty of space behind you but in a compact office environment, you will be glad to have this feature.

If cost is your number one factor, you will not be disappointed in what you are getting from Rocelco CADR 46. When I saw the price tag online for Rocelco CADR 46, I thought it was a typo. I think the size of the desk alone should warrant a higher price but somehow Rocelco manages to keep it very low.

You are getting a large corner standing desk converter that moves straight up and down just like the Flexispot models do. Therefore, you do not need to back up as you stand. The best thing about it is that you will be paying less.

Here are additional features that you will be pleasantly surprised coming from this converter:

• EVR – Enhanced Vertical Range. You can lift the desk up to 18” and as always I recommend getting a monitor arm to ensure your ergonomic position.

This corner converter actually moves up and down within its own footprint. Therefore, if you are in a compact workstation, you can save some space and stay close to your desk. You will also get a dedicated slot to place your phone.

If that is not enough, you will get these features as well from Fezibo stand up cubicle corner:

• Spring-loaded scissor lift mechanism. It is designed so that you can have a smooth transition when raising and lowering your desk.
• Height settings up to 19 inches. If you are above 6’, you still want to consider getting a monitor arm for the best height adjustment.
• Spacious work area. With 37 inches wide you will have a nice space to place a dual monitor. However, the indicated loading capacity is only 28.6 lbs so if your monitor bases are very heavy, it is best to get a monitor arm.

Seriously??? Is lifting up a well-designed and manufactured standing desk converter too much for you? I am just kidding!!! The fact is that electric standing desk converters have become very popular because there are people who truly need them, and they do not cost as much as before.

With a push of a button, you remove the need for physical lifting. Hence, no risk of hurting your back. This is especially important if you have a poor back condition. Another reason you want to consider an electric converter is that you can place more weight on your desk. A typical electric desk riser will support 50 lbs or more.
